HOW IT STARTED
One missing yearbook opened a bigger possibility.
Once I heard the yearbook was not going to happen, I organized a group of photographers to help document the year. We took student headshots in the library and used the pictures we had collected throughout the year to help tell the story of that class.
That experience showed me that preserving student life could not depend on one photographer being in every room. Almost every student already walks onto campus with a camera in their pocket. The real opportunity was giving students a simple way to contribute what they were already capturing.
DAZE'S ROLE
DAZE helped turn the idea into a working system.
DAZE organized photographers who could document what was happening across campus. We called them DAZE Reporters. The collection of images they captured, along with the photos students contributed, gave birth to a digital platform where students could document their own stories.
Working with the library helped us understand that the picture is only one part of the archive. The names, dates, locations, organizations, social accounts and stories connected to each picture are what allow future generations to understand what they are looking at and why it mattered.

The Aggie Archives gives students ownership over how their college experience is remembered.
This is not only a collection of professional event photos. It is a record created by the people who were actually there. That makes it more personal, more honest and more complete.
A picture that feels regular today could become an important piece of history years from now.

The Aggie Archives started at North Carolina A&T, but the system can grow far beyond one campus.
FROM ONE CAMPUS TO A NATIONAL NETWORK
Our goal is to build a model that colleges and libraries can use to collect student history as it is happening. That begins with the UNC System, but the larger vision is a nationwide network of archives shaped by students.
We are showing that every campus can preserve more of its history when students are given a real way to participate.
