Province was supposed to be a block party. Then students began protesting the shutdown of GHOE activities and parties, and celebration became confrontation.
Police formed a line. Students were cornered and pepper-sprayed. In Saint’s memory, the music and the urgency occupy the same frame: young people insisting that their traditions, movement, and gathering mattered.
Culture is never just logistics
Daze did not plan a protest. But we learned that an event can become a public statement the moment a community feels unheard. Producers must understand not only sound, space, and promotion, but also power, safety, de-escalation, and the responsibility of documenting what happens.
Daisy carries Province as a reminder that joy can be civic language. The work is to make room for it without confusing energy for control. Sometimes the crowd tells you what the moment really is.
